The Broken West - Pics, Music, and SXSW

After recieving emails for weeks about a band named The Broken West coming to town to play The Hitone - the day of the show I clicked one of the links to check out their music. Imagine my surprise when I realized that The Broken West was actually formerly The Brokedown, a band Justin from Aquarium Drunkard introduced me to last year at SXSW. I kept in touch with lead singer Ross Flourney who actually hails from right here in Memphis and stopped by one of my DJ nights at The Hitone last year when he was visting.

Anyway, after I figured out who the hell these guys were I was really excited to take a listen to their new record, I Can't Go On, I Will Go On (which had been sitting on my desk for about a month unopened!!) Their record is a great blend of Wilco and Big Star type melodies - so much so that I set the band up with a tour of Ardent Studios with Jody Stephens the next day.
