Art in Manila
Art in Manila is a new Saddle Creek band led by former Azure Ray singer Orenda Fink. The band, which sports a formidable supporting cast behind Fink that includes members of the Anniversary, McCarthy Trenching and the Good Life, is embarking on a tour in support of their debut LP Set the Woods on Fire that features dates with Rilo Kiley and the Good Life. (In fact, Fink will double as a member of Rilo Kiley's live band for the tour.)
At times, Art in Manila travels the lush path set forth by Azure Ray, however, there's also definitely a rougher-edge to some of the new material. On Set the Woods on Fire, the band flirts with genre wanderlust without abandoning cohesion. Moody slow-burners follow four-on-the-floor rockers which follow serene ballads. And it works - good stuff.
