Jamie Randolph's recent album, Villain, was released in June 2006
by Marauder Records. And though we'd love to sum the whole thing up
in one super-witty genre descriptor destined to be the new "it" genre
of '07, truth be told Randolph hasn't made it easy on us- Villain blurs
the traditional boundaries between country and indie rock by blending
dark undertones, rock guitars, and social criticism uncommon in most
popular modern country releases.

It's not entirely surprising considering that Randolph's own influences
aren't traditional country artists. Randolph cites Fiona Apple, Ryan Adams,
and Miles Davis as some of his favorites, and a serious listen to his work
reveal some surprising similarities. Jamie makes music on his own terms -
it's brooding, genre-bending, and cool.
