Devil Train is Bluegrass Gold

Monday is the busiest night of the week at Midtown dive bar The Buccaneer, where bluegrass and gypsy jazz supergroup Devil Train has had a standing gig for almost a year. The group includes James Ray (Minivan Blues Band) on acoustic guitar; Davey Coleman (JD Highway) on bass and vocals; Clint Wagner (Papa Top's West Coast Turnaround) on guitar, fiddle and vocals; Jonathan Ciaramitaro (Minivan Blues Band and Los Cantadores) on mandolin, guitar and vocals; Paul Buchignani (Harlan T. Bobo, Minivan Blues Band, Neighborhood Texture Jam, Impala and Limes) on snare drum/splash cymbal; and former national banjo champion Randall Morton, who is working on a banjo method book for Mel Bay publications. On any random night, Richard Cushing of FreeWorld might stop by to play harmonica.

A mixture of traditional bluegrass covers and a few originals, every show is taped and passed out to whoever shows an interest. As of right now, according to Buchignani, there are no plans to professionally record any of their original music. But he does offer a great hangover cure: "Take some aspirin. Sip some ice water. Eat a whole raw tomato and a raw carrot. You'll feel good as new."
