Carey Ott - Shelf Life

Nashville's Dualtone label has been impressive of late, boasting a roster as diverse as the late June Carter Cash, Daniel Johnston, and having had occasion to recently release the magnificent (and somehow overlooked) Bobby Bare CD The Moon Was Blue. As if there weren't enough to boast about, along comes singer/songwriter Carey Ott's latest CD on Dualtone entitled Lucid Dream, twelve new songs fueled by Ott's dynamic vocal range and gift for pop songwriting. Lucid Dream is filed with songs which are well-produced, clearly showcasing Ott's influence at the hands of Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, and Jeff Buckley -- songwriting and vocals which are at once safe, wanton, and soulfully warm. Check out these two tracks: "Shelf Life" and "kickingstones", and let me know what you think. The album is scheduled for release in May, 2006, so enjoy and tell a friend.
