What I Listened To The Most From 2005
Ok, I know, I know. I haven't been around nearly as much in the last half of the year as some of you would like. Besides working on two movies and a commercial, I've had a slough of other things going on. Does that mean I stop listening to music? Hardly.2005 has been one of the best years in recent memory for new music. Putting together a best-of list for the year has been a daunting and frequently difficult task, honestly. I want to thank the readers for sticking with us through the curves and valleys that the year presented, to all the great folks at CMJ, Fader, Scott at Stereogum, Keith from TTIKDA, David at Largehearted Boy, the anonymous vegan from Brooklyn, Paul at Aurgasm, Dodge at My Old Kentucky Blog, SXSW, In Music We Trust, Matthew at Fluxblog and the dozens of bloggers, friends, acquaintances, indie promo companies and record labels who put bugs in my ear all year long.
Above all else, thanks to the people who make the music. Without you, nobody needs what we do.
I don't know what "the best" albums of the year are. I can't do some sort of fucking flowchart filled with points for cleverity or subtractions for riffing. I've come to realize that it all comes down to what albums I listened to from beginning to end most consistently even after reviewing them. These are the ones I could not shake, always came back to, always ran circles in my head.
This list is based solely on that criteria and nothing else -- not coolness, hipness, whether or not Pitchfork thinks it's good or whatever. So if you don't like this list, then you probably don't like what I'm listening to and you probably didn't read this blog at all this year. I urge you to seek professional help from a professional personal shopper.
