Stream the cloud room's Debut

How ironic that in the wake of the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the Brooklyn based foursome the cloud room, who was once described by Spin Magazine as "synthed-up guitar pop for wistful folks worrying about blackouts, floods and the next brit-pop backlash" had to cancel their New Orleans show last week. Luckily for Memphis, now home to thousands of displaced survivors of the Gulf tragedy, they will be making a stop at The Hi-tone Cafe Monday September 12th to play a show with The Pernice Brothers.

Named after the Prohibition-era speakeasy that was once located at the top of The Chrysler building, the cloud room has been referred to as the American answer to the dance rock anthems of Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs due to their sing along anthems and bouncing rhythms. Although it is easy to hear similar 80's influences among the superabundance of post-punk and new wave bands that have developed from the NYC, and more specifically Brooklyn, music scene, the cloud room have skipped the disco beat trend and relied on influences from a decade earlier to set themselves apart.
