Lydia Lunch - Touch My Evil

What can I say about Lydia Lunch? With 20 albums under her corset and more collaborations than I can count - she has been busy musing from the sexual, violent and sometimes sacrilegious side of life since the 80's. All of her projects embody different musical creatures. She is one of no-wave's most enduring female icons, a central figure in Teenage Jesus & the Jerks and 8-Eyed Spy, and a collaborator with members of the Birthday Party, Einsturzende Neubauten, Swans, Sonic Youth and Foetus's Jim Thirlwell.

Smoke in the Shadows (2004, Atavistic), her first album in six years, Lydia employs a stellar band this time out that includes guitarists Nels Cline and Tommy Grenas, drummer Alex Cline, saxophonists Vinny Golia and Niels Van Hoorn (from the Legendary Pink Dots), keyboardist Len del Rio, Terry Edwards, and backing vocalists Adele Bertei (Contortions) and Carla Bozulich (Geraldine Fibbers).

The work is sleazy, noirish - laced with smoky, back alley bars, pulsing bass and drums, and more femme fatal attitude than an Italian 60's flick. Lydia is dangerous and poetic - hard-boiled and seductive - kinda like a post-mod beatnik with nothing to lose.
