Today is hip hop day on Scenestars, and no better gift could have come to me on this fine day than a promo that I have long awaited -- the convergence of two of hip-hop's greatest forces, Dangermouse and MF Doom along with seemingly the entire crew of Adult Swim characters (including a track called "A.T.H.F.", hm what might that be?), creates the one known as DangerDoom. The series of skits and crazy head-bopping rhymes on The Mouse & The Mask should seem familiar to fans of both these men and fans of the [adult swim] shows on Cartoon Network. Fully experimental, fueled by inventive beats, drop-ins galore, and Doom the Human's flows, this CD prevails by never doing what you expect at any moment. Guest appearances by Ghostface Killah, Talib Kweli, and this track which features Cee Lo Green, dot the landscape of the 14 tracks I now hold in my hand. If the Gorillaz album that Danger Mouse produced earlier this year wasn't proof enough of his elemental skills, this should lock you down like hard cement in knowing who is running things at the console these days. Just have fun and don't try to figure it all out, hear me?
