Second Layer - Courts Or Wars

In addition to being in the first band to self-release an LP (The Outsiders - Calling On Youth LP 1977), a fruitful career in underground band The Sound and a solo career, Adrian Borland had many side projects, one of which was called Second Layer. Second Layer existed for a short time during the beginning years of The Sound (circa 1979 - 1981) and only released two seven inches (which were later compiled to one twelve inch) and an LP.

I came across Second Layer on a Messthetics compilation that a guy at a record store recommended. Second Layer stood out from the rest of the UK D.I.Y. bands on the compilation because of their military style drumming and effected vocals. With Adrian Borland on guitar and vocals and Graham Bailey on keyboards, bass, and drum machine a Joy Division-esque sound is produced.

I'm pretty sure all of the Second Layer releases are very rare, but you might be able to find a couple of songs on compilations like Messthetics.
