Morcheeba - Everybody Loves A Loser

I've been looking for a chance to hear something new and different from Morcheeba. I've always loved the sultry vocal stylings of singer Skye Edwards and the warmth of their soulful trip-hop and downtempo songs. However, the production values on their last couple of outings made them sound as if they had become bored with one another. It felt like they were headed in a dreary and unintersting direction. Almost as if they had asked me to, I tuned them out. To top it all off, it does not appear, even, that Morcheeba has a record deal in the United States any longer. Much to my surprise, Morcheeba has a new vocalist in the form of Daisy Matey (formerly of Noonday Underground) and, excitingly, a sharper sound. They don't dismiss their pseudo-psychedelic '60's noodling or their French spy pop tendencies. Instead, they tend to emphasize them on their new album The Antidote and with success. Daisy's vocal stylings showcase a broader range, a kind of powerful bluesy-ness that makes the synthesizers and guitars mesh beautifully. While there is nothing remotely like "Parts Of The Process" or "The Sea" on this record, I enjoy the brighter direction that Ross and Paul Godfrey have taken with their new vocalist Daisy aboard. This song should give you something to look forward to.
