The Apes - Beyond Beyond

At the beginning of the unofficial Indie Rock Super Extravaganza a few week's ago, I noticed the Deli slowly begin to fill while Vending Machine played. Wondering what the hype was, I decided to stick around for the headliner, The Apes. Maybe I'm behind the curve or I've been missing out, but until that Friday I'd never even heard of them.

Formed in 1999 in Washington, DC, the Apes are a guitarless quartet with all the ingredients: a hot chick on the keyboards, a charismatic, hyperenergetic lead singer with good hair, with a sound and message reminiscent of Death From Above 1979 meets The Kills meets The Polyphonic Spree. Oh, and they wear costumes. Extra credit!

All kidding aside, I'm a fan of all things bizarre and all things rock and roll, and this band has both.
