Sunshine - Victim Is Another Name For Lover

I never envisioned Czechoslovakia as a place that cranked out electro-punk music with a gravitational pull. It seems that Sunshine, a four-piece bonanza hailing from said eastern bloc country, have taken to unravel that myth with an abrasive, funky, and downright quirky entry into the the nerve-jangling annals of post-punk audio history. Since 1994, they've been quartering audiences with infectious punk rock you can actually dance to, and have released several previous recordings that leave similar handprints around your neck. Drawing proudly on their steady diet of Joy Division, The Birthday Party, and Mudhoney, the result is a herky-jerky cacophony of zapped up aural skin-nicks and close shaves that at times seems like The Faint but is clearly vastly superior to The Faint in the songwriting department. Check the evidence vault by listening to this track from their limited edition EP, Electric! Kill! Kill! EP. They sound to me like Public Image, Ltd. skull fucking Sigue Sigue Sputnik on the way to a My Bloody Valentine reunion, and to me that's a strong recommendation to break the yellow tape trying to get your hands on this CD while you still can for a pocket-easy $5.00! Sunshine will have a full-length out soon, Moonshower and Razorblades, the title of which pretty much lets you know what you can expect. The EP serves to preview what you will hear on their new recordings. They've been on tour with Sparta (the band that has former members of At The Drive-In, remember?) recently and, in the coming weeks, you'll be able to catch them at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX.
