Neon - He's A Whore

Neon have been riding the wave of an Australian pop music invasion the likes of which American shores have never quite seen. Along with the other bands they have been lumped in with as part of this hit explosion (The Vines and Jet), this 3-piece outfit are among the lucky lottery winners in the "Who Will Be The Next Aussie Big Thing" sweepstakes that has been selling scratch-off tickets in A&R offices all over the place. It hardly matters, being that they've seen the U.S. as part of the "Aussie Invasion" tour and, with the help of Redd Kross uber-genius Steve Macdonald (who has produced the first two tracks on this CD) and Graham Coxon (yes, that Graham Coxon), they have already managed quite a showing. Frankly, I hope they outsell both of those other Aussie bands (you know, the ones they toured with?) and kick them to the curb. Their EP, Hit Me Again should find itself jumping off record store shelves on February 22nd, giving sonic sweettooths in the states a taste of what beautiful, growling power pop is all about. After listening to this for the last week on a regular basis, I wouldn't care if this EP was released on plywood and I needed to hold an awl attached to an orange cone in one hand while I spun it around with the other in order to listen to it -- I'd buy it before you could say The Kinks, The Byrds, and Cheap Trick.

Speaking of Cheap Trick, I love this cover of "He's A Whore". So did Graham and Steve -- not only does it appear on this EP, it comes straight from the demo sessions that both Steve & Graham heard that convinced each of them to work with the band.
