Dolorean - Violence in Snowy Fields
Maybe I'm too old to get it anymore. When I saw Interpol last summer, I thought it was the most boring show. ever. I wasn't touched or moved, not even to dance. Is this what the kids are into? Even while wearing their influences blindingly on their sleeve, they still have been launched to the top of the '80's re-wave trash heap. Don't get me wrong, they're ok. I just think that people who listen to them might as well wear a sign on their back that says, "Be careful with me. I have emotional problems. And I will hold it against you."
Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of stuff like Dolorean in protest this week. Less pretension. Tastes great. This track is from their 2004 release by the same name.
Al James' lyrics are just as dark at times as any of the fashion bands around these days, yet they're more compelling and, dare I say earnest? There's no threat of an "I'm just kidding!" or "I was trying to be ironic!" The more I see bands like The Killers on television, the more my eye sockets become sore from rolling my eyes. Most music deals with the same themes, I just prefer the musicians that, although are not afraid to be honest about their hang-ups, realize that they're pretty much the same as everyone else's, and if you could just give up the narcissism for a minute, you'd realize, we're all gonna make it.
