Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter

When I watched the opening of the film Closer and heard this song, I almost literally melted into my seat. I hadn't listened to Damien Rice's album O in quite a while but the same wave of emotion washed over me as the first time I heard this track. I thought I was in for quite a treat in terms of the film. I was highly mistaken. As someone who didn't spend more than two weeks of my twenties single, instead finding myself submerged in two intense long-term commitments, I've had my fill of self-obssessive narcissistic relationships and now they pretty much bore me to tears. And that sort of sums up what Closer is about. However, I can still appreciate the naked pain of unresolved love that this song conveys so well.

I don't know much about Lisa Hannigan, the female vocalist that answers Rice's yearnings with:

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to leave it all behind?

I just know that she has an incredible voice and I never get tired of this song. I can listen to it on repeat over and over again. Even if it is a little bit obsessive.
