Smoosh - Massive Curve

Do you remember what you were doing at eleven years old. What is that? Like 5th grade? I think I was still playing with Barbies and listening to Cyndi Lauper. I do remember fantasizing about being a singer and wrangling my cousins into being in my back-up band (I'm the oldest, so I was the leader, of course). When they would come and visit, we would get our parents to take us to record songs at the various cheesy karaoke places in the malls. I've heard through the grapevine that a tape was recovered a few weeks ago of Laurie and me singing the Wilson Phillips hit Hold On. I have a sinking feeling that it might be let loose on my unsuspecting family at Christmas dinner this year. I can hardly wait.

Anyway, we never followed through on our dreams of becoming the next The Jets (although we did record a rocking cover of Crush on You), and that's why I'm so jealous of these two Seattle based sisters, Asya and Chloe. They play keyboards and drums in the band Smoosh. I first read about them in Entertainment Weekly (yes, I read it, we've had this conversation). I was intrigued by the review of She Like Electric that mentioned the entire album was written and played by an eleven and nine year old. I haven't picked up the CD yet, but I've been rocking this track that I downloaded from their website for the past couple of months. Their songs are innocent yet worldly, sweet yet kinda punk, like Le Tigre for tweens.
