Ok, I'm a bit sleep-deprived and shaken; I've been at the recording studio working on my own album all night....so I'll get right to the point: Joe Jackson is really cool. I mean, seriously -- the guy has guts. Punk, New Wave, Jazz, Reggae, Classical, Pop...and most of it he did very well! I like some of his later work but Look Sharp! is a quintessential, must-own CD for anyone who loves classic pop/punk/new wave. When I was a little kid, there was a cool record store up the street from me called Roger's Records. I never knew "Roger", but I used to ride up there and check out his records -- like every DAY. I remember when that album first appeared on the shelf on 10-inch vinyl, and it included a button! YES, embedded in the cover of the album, that said...what else? Look Sharp! There's not a bad song on the whole record. I've listened to it a million times, I will listen to it a million more. It's funny, it's catchy, it's clever, it's snotty and infinitely memorable. "Sunday Papers" is one of my two favorites off said album -- particularly when he sings "if you wanna know 'bout the gay politician" and in the background, someone hollers out "ohh yeahhhh!". I fall down laughing every time. Groove on that, and since I'm in a good mood, why don't you check out a couple of extra songs -- the title track, "Look Sharp" and "Got The Time", which is just a shredding piece of pop-punk history. He was right on the money. Enjoy your weekend, kids.
