Cinematic Orchestra - Evolution

Not many bands like this exist - but I guess this is a good thing. Cinematic Orchestra fuses jazz with hip hop elements and wrap it all up nicely in a downtempo package with a snazzy hipster bow. Resting squarly on the Ninja Tune label, they have created a new center piece for the Nu-Jazz movement. J Swinscoe, for this album, Everyday, enlisted the talents of saxaphonist Tom Chant, vocalist Niara Scarlett, and the turntablist PC of DJ Food fame. The amount of sampling and turntable work is very well blended - not in your face and painfully apparent - they are treated as elements of the song instead of the foremost thing you hear.

There is an over all dark edge to this album but not to the point of being spooky or imposing. I see it more like the kinda darkness that exists in our daily lives - those space inbetween - this is where their groove lies. This track has a deeeep groove and quickly gained popularity as a subtle dance floor piece, not that I ever had the pleasure of experiencing that (grrrrr).
