The Thrills - Whatever Happened to Cory Haim?
I just picked up the new Thrills album Let's Bottle Bohemia, so I haven't had a chance to totally digest the whole thing. However, they're making a visit to the Music City in a couple of days when they open for The Pixies, so I wanted to go ahead and warn our Nashville Neighbors. They're also playing at Voodoo Fest (I'm still waiting for someone to offer to take me to this event, BTW!)The NYT declared their debut So Much For The City the second best album of 2003. Of course, the NYT also regularly places pictures of Ashley next to stories about Mary-Kate, so what the hell do they know, right? Anyway, The Thrills don't sound anything like what I imagined. I kind of have it ingrained in my head that if your band starts with the word THE you are all about the garage rock sound. These guys are far from that. They're Dubliners that sound more alt-country than Hives, which doesn't bother me a bit, but may catch a few off guard. I just love the fake accent - does anyone else hear the singer channeling J Mascis or am I crazy?
