Brazzaville - Old Folks
Want to know a secret? When people write to me and want to send me a CD, I hardly ever take them up on the offer. I've worked in entertainment for a while and know the downfall of too much shwag: stacks of crappy CD's that you feel bad about throwing away. (However, I always accept passes to get into shows!) Now, if someone sends me an MP3, I'll listen to it and if it doesn't make me cringe, I'll add it to my playlist and sit with it. For instance, I got a press release back in August about an upcoming release from Brazzaville. It took me three months of listening to them to realize that I liked what I was hearing. Things grow on you, ya know?
Brazzaville has a greatest hits compilation being released on November 2nd, and that was what I was originally contacted about promoting. However, after checking out the website, I found a couple of tracks from an album that isn't due to be released until 2005 that intrigued me more. David Brown, the main culprit behind the band, has worked with Beck, Siouxie Sioux, Ben Lee and Jude. He is currently living in self-imposed exile in Spain, whatever that means.
