Bob Holman , a performance poet (being crowned "Ringmaster of the Spoken Word"), brings us his first album, In With The Out Crowd. Backed by a loose and experimentally playful band, the album moves from rock to country to ballad, shot through with urgent humor and what can only be called, “poetry.” Holman has had his share in nurturing the poetry world - He has appeared widely on TV: "Nightline," "Good Morning America," "ABC News Magazine," MTV's "Spoken Word Unplugged," and "The Charlie Rose Show," among others. The series he produced for PBS, The United States of Poetry, features over sixty poets including Derek Walcott, Rita Dove, Czeslaw Milosz, Lou Reed and former President Jimmy Carter, as well as rappers, cowboy poets, American Sign Language poets, and Slammers. And this is all just brushing the surface. Saying all of thatl - I had never heard of this until I ran across his CD in a local store when I asked the guy behind the counter for something "wordy and wacky...but not stupid". Am I lame or what?
