Blur - Coffee and TV
A lot of people wrote off Blur as the usual suspects in terms of Brit-Pop when they first landed on this side of the pond with Parklife back in 1994. That album barely made my radar. Then they did the bait and switch with Song 2 off their 1997 self-titled album. Then after 5 years of trying to decide if I liked them or not, they had me at 13. Actually, they had me with the video for Coffee and TV, which played non-stop on MTV2 during the summer of 1999. The album mostly deals with Damon Albarn's breakup with his longtime girlfriend, Elastica's Justine Frischmann and it's pretty heavy at times. But I like heavy. The boys of Blur finally decided to just make music and not adhere to what they were supposed to play, and that's why that album is all over the map and all over the awesome.
