Matmos - Spondee

Quirk anyone? An old friend of mine introduced me to these electro-cats some years back - thankfully. Matmos is not overly concerned with making dance-floor hits, they pretty much do whatever they wish. They have worked with the likes of and remixed music for Bjork and The Melvins, done shows for homeless teenagers and have had art pieces in the Whitney Museum of American Art - so they are up to much more than making music...much more.

On this album, 'A Chance to Cut Is A Chance To Cure'...'After gaining the trust and cooperation of surgeons and patients, the band was allowed to record in operating rooms and clinics. Back in the studio, Matmos performed surgery of their own upon the sounds they had gathered, building rhythms from the clanks, rasps and snips of the scalpel, kick drums from the sound of bones being broken, and rich drones from the buzz of human skin conducting electricity through acupuncture points.'
