Beth Orton - She Cries Your Name
Wow, this blog has allowed me to go back and find a lot of gems that I forgot I even had. Like this track for instance, from Beth Orton's debut Trailer Park. I remember reading that Janeane Garofalo really loved this album and that's what made me buy it. I have no idea why that meant anything to me now. Anyway, I totally loved this album when it came out and was so excited to see Orton when she played Roseland in 1999. The only problem is that I think her live shows were the paradigm that split her audience. People who saw her live and then bought her album expected a straight-up folk rocker, while people like me, who bought the album first, were aggravated by the lack of electronic soundscape in her live shows. After listening to Central Reservation, I totally lost interest, but since re-discovering songs like She Cries Your Name, I might have to give it a second spin too.
