The Sea and Cake - All the Photos
The Sea and Cake hail from Chicago and include drummer-producer John McIntire of Stereolab fame. People seem to either love them or hate them. They've been around for a while, but still seem to end up on people's radar via word-of-mouth without much press or radio play to get the word out. Their music, or at least their album Oui, is a little too low-key for some. The term"elevator music" has been thrown around by more then a few. But all music has a purpose and this album's purpose is to be played after seeing a really loud show. It's sweet and lilting and is interesting enough to not put you to sleep, but precious enough to rock you like a baby. Tell whoever's riding shotgun to turn it down a notch with the yak, yak, yak, it's 4 A.M. for god's sake. Can't we just enjoy the ride?
